LDS Charities Donates Computers to Solomon Islands Hospital

Staff at the National Referral Hospital (NRH) in Honiara, Solomon Islands, now have the computers they need thanks to a donation made recently by LDS Charities, the humanitarian organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Dr. Steve Aumanu, CEO of NRH, accepted the donated computers on behalf of the hospital. Local Latter-day Saint leader, President Matthew Sauseru, represented the Church in making the donation.

Employees of the hospital and other representatives of the Church attended the gifting ceremony.

“The computers will be used throughout the hospital, including in the post-natal unit and in the records department,” said Elder Lynn Sanders, an American, who is serving alongside his wife Sister Sandy Sanders as welfare missionaries for the Church in Honiara.

The donated computers are part of a larger effort by LDS Charities to help enhance the Pacific island nation’s health care services. Recently the Church gifted the hospital 300 wheelchairs and other mobility equipment.

LDS Charities provides humanitarian assistance of many kinds around the world.  One of its special projects is gifting wheelchairs for those in need who cannot afford their own.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is growing in the Solomon Islands. It has nearly 1,000 members who worship together in five congregations.

Elder Sanders said, “People here recognize and appreciate the efforts of the Church and how its members follow the teachings of Jesus Christ by helping those in need.

“Visitors are always welcome to come and learn about the Church and why we love to serve others,” he said.
